Axlar Björn
Axlar Björn by Björn Hlynur Haraldsson
A Vesturport and Reykjavik City Theatre production
Directed by Björn Hlynur Haraldsson
“These are dark days.”
Axlar-Björn tells the story of Iceland’s most infamous killer, bearing the same name. When pregnant his mother had a craving for human blood wich his father provided from his own leg. So you can say that Axlar-Björns horrendous nature started in the womb.
Axlar-Björn killed eighteen people, men, women and children, and disposed of the bodies in ponds and crevices in the volcanic rock. In the year 1596 he was finally caught and sentenced to death by having all his limbs beaten to pulp before being decapitated.
In the play we follow Axlar-Björn blood soaked life story as well as asking the question, what makes a murderer?
Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (1974) has developed a good reputation as a writer and director, writing among other things the play Dubbeldusch and the adaptation of Faust and The Housewife along with his fellow partners in Vesturport.
Kjartan Sveinsson (1978) from the band Sigurrós underlines the horror with his music and soundtrack.
