Stage Designer
Börkur works as a freelance designer for theatre and film abroad and at home. He is a member of Vesturport Theatre and has worked extensively with them since 2002.

The Heart of Robin Hood (The Royal Shakespeare Company 2011, American Repertory Theater 2013), Der Sturm (The Tempest) (Residentzteater, Munchen 2013), Macbeth (The Icelandic National Theater 2012), Return of Ulysses (English National Opera), King Lear (National Theatre of Iceland, 2010), Enron, Osage in August County, Blasted (Reykjavik City Theatre), Electric Hotel (Fuel Theatre, UK), The Three Penny Opera (National Theatre of Iceland), Woyzeck (Vesturport /Reykjavík City Theatre /Barbican Center UK), Metamorphosis (Vesturport /Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, UK), Romeo and Juliet (Vesturport /Reykjavík City Theatre /Young Vic, UK).
Film credits include: Production Design for the feature film “BRIM” (Undercurrent) 2010.
Recently Börkur was awarded the Danish Reumert prize 2013 Stage Design of the year for the play Bastards and the 31st Elliot Norton Award, Outstanding Design for Metamorphosis 2013.
Börkur has received the annual Icelandic Theatre Awards for Stage Design 2006, 2008 and 2010. He was nominated for the Evening Standard theatre awards in 2006 for Metamorphosis. His studies include blacksmithing (Granada, Spain), sculpture (BA, Icelandic Academy of the Arts) and performance and video art (MA, Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki).
